All wreck penetration involves an "overhead environment" and is not therefore considered as a recreational activity, but as a technical diving activity, along with cave diving. Wreck penetration is an hazardous activity, which could be done with increased safety after following a technical wreck penetration course or a recreational wreck penetration course. This activity should not be attempted unless properly trained and using the right equipment for such activities. Most wreck diving sites around the world such as the famous Scapa Flow and Truk Lagoon are not allowing penetration and wrecks will be enjoyed from the outside.
