Diving Packages in Varna, Bulgaria

In recent years, some new leisure destinations have appeared around the world, and one of the most valuable ones is located in a beautiful country in Central Europe on the coastline of the Black Sea: Bulgaria. Although the place is not yet known for the possibilities of recreational diving activities, it is today possible to enjoy the wonders of the numerous shipwrecks of the Black Sea as well as a magnificent ancient Roman port town submerged not far from the pearl of the region: Varna.

Varna Diving Centre in the resort of Albena

Bulgaria possesses beautiful landscapes and beaches, and is becoming a real resort paradise, with its thermal hot springs and many things to do and see. Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria and offers excellent folk culture, shopping centres, world class resorts and hotels, and a multitude of family oriented guest houses. Varna is rich in history and is the centre of training of the famous Bulgarian Navy, hosting its officers academy. Varna is also the host of the world famous ballet contest, which has been won by most present and past ballet stars throughout the world.
Life along the black Sea coast is nice and easy, and Varna is a genuine family holiday haven with an excellent quality for price ratio. European citizens and North Americans do not need a visa and get a three month entry visa upon arrival. The currency is the "Lev" ("lion" in Bulgarian) and 1 US$ = 2 Leva.
Accommodation and goods are cheap in Bulgaria and it is a must to try the excellent red and white Bulgarian wines as well as their world class tasty beers! Tourists land in the capital Sofia, and can take a connection flight to Varna.

Recreational scuba diving is a new activity in the region of Varna, but can be very rewarding with excellent shipwrecks dive sites, close to Varna or further north on the Romanian border in Duran Kulak. Most of the sites are accessible from the shore or by small boats such as Zodiacs. The fun of diving around Varna is the safari-like conditions, where the divers will find themselves on pristine coastlines with no one around.
One of the highlights of the region is certainly the ancient Roman port city submerged in 12m of water some 40 km north of Varna. The dive site is surrounded by an amazing archeological site on land where ancient Roman tombs were found and dug out decades ago. It is believed that the treasure of Alexander the Great is buried in the vicinity... but has yet to be found!

Diving conditions are good in the temperate waters although the visibility can be poor. The best period for diving activities is the summer time, when the air temperature in Varna can reach 40oC and the water temperature 23oC between June and September. Temperate water diving equipment is recommended and will be provided if divers do not have it.
Varna is also an excellent place to start diving, as the coastline topography allows shallow and protected waters to accommodate the training of beginners.
Varna Diving Centre, a NAUI Gold Pro Centre, offers a full range of NAUI courses from beginner up to leadership and Instructor levels.
